This CEWEG paper discusses the value of bottom ash from Waste-to-Energy plants as a sustainable building material. Using treated bottom ash is more sustainable and environmentally friendly and avoids the use of natural resources such as sand and gravel. The paper addresses the treatment and use of bottom ash in road construction, as a foundation material, in noise barriers, as a capping layer on landfil sites and as an aggregate in asphalt and concrete.
